Thursday Thirteen!

August 30, 2007 · Leave a Comment

1. Yesterday I purchased books for two of my four classes. I am not going to get by cheap this year, unfortunately. (And I will have a LOT of reading to do this semester.)

2. Tomorrow my roommate arrives! I won’t have to be alone in the scary new apartment anymore! (Well, more of a house than apartment, really.)

3. Tomorrow is also my best friend LeAnn’s 20th Birthday! We are only 2-3 blocks down the street from each other again! It’ll be like back in the day when we would call each other up and 3 minutes later be at the front door! (But in this case it could be 6 or 7 minutes because the traffic on one street is rather busy these days.)

4. Tonight is the groundbreaking for the new Twins Ballpark. I don’t have anyone to go with, but I am tempted to stop by anyway to check it out. Or I could just watch it on TV. Less people that way.

5. Today is my last full day of work for the summer! I am taking tomorrow afternoon off. Then I will go back to being part time on 15 hours during the school year.

6. This weekend, everything will start. I am already jam-packed with things to do, events, etc. that I hardly will have time to just sit! But I am very excited for the future stories!

7. If I don’t do my laundry Saturday morning I will literally have nothing to wear.

8. I love how this season has gone for the Twins. I mean, who wouldn’t? We get excited for the 5 game winning streak, then place everything on a series that we were just swept in? And all our hopes and dreams are flushed down the proverbial toilet? Who wouldn’t love a team that makes your emotions go haywire with each passing day?

9. I watched the movie Annie Hall last night. Annie Hall is from Chippewa Falls, WESconsin apparently. Diane Keaton cannot pronounce the state correctly, so therefore I have trouble believing her as an actress. If you really were from there, you’d be horrified at people replacing the “i” with an “e.” That’s just how it is. Woody Allen can say it right. That’s all I am saying.

10. I have said before that 68 degrees was the perfect temperature in my mind. Well, the past couple days have been just that. I am thrilled!

11. After this weekend, summer will be over. According to the calendar, we still have a few weeks, but in everyone’s minds this is it. Once school starts on Tuesday, everything will change. Hours of operation, pools will close, bus schedules will alter, and we can already feel the temperature change in the mornings.

12. My family is going camping in Door County this weekend. Now, normally this would bother me, since they will have bonding time but I won’t be there. But I couldn’t have gone with them this weekend. Not with everything I have to do coming up. I can’t believe it is already here! I have been waiting all month for this weekend to start!

13. I am loving Arizona’s Green Tea right now. I may have a new obsession. It’s delicious, I definitely recommend!

Yeah, yeah…it’s what I’ve been saying all along!

This is something I’ve known all along, but it is good to see them branching out to other parts of the country. Thanks to the Ladies… others know just how good it is to be a Twins fan.

I need contact with the outside world again.

August 27, 2007 · Leave a Comment

I promise I will have a much more interesting life come Friday, complete with stories! (I am now referring to this date as, Doug Day!) Until then, I think there is a hornet’s nest in my back porch area, and I am inheriting the presence of a kitty. Her name is Emma. Oh, and I had a dream last night after the thunderstorm that I was graduating from college, but fiercely fighting this happening. Even though it is just under two years away yet, I am terrified of the prospect. I hope my feelings change.

It is a little windy, I have sand in my eyes.

It’s amazing how quickly the landscape of campus will change a few days from now. Currently, I am sitting on the front plaza in front of Northrup Auditorium and the only person I see is an elderly man wearing a pair of overalls. As I gaze across the mall area to Coffman, I know that this is the last week of summer, and the inevitable will happen come next Tuesday. The 70,000 plus people will return and make this vast campus a zoo. I will again have difficulties walking from class to class to work and back home because so many people out there don’t know how to walk. Now, I admit that I am a ridiculously fast walker, but it is just common sense to walk on the right side of the sidewalk, right? Am I wrong? One would think pedestrians could mimic vehicular traffic.

I am really excited to go to the bookstore to get my books. I have been trying to wait as long as possible, because only 2 are currently in stock. Then I start thinking about it and get scared because I am taking 2 English classes and 2 history classes. That’s a lot of reading. Yikes. And then I have my own personal reading, and the ever growing stack of New Yorker issues that I haven’t gotten to quite yet. Good thing I like to read. Of course, if I didn’t I certainly wouldn’t be majoring in English.

Okay, now the fellow I mentioned before is sitting at the table directly behind me. Is that strange? Should I be worried? It is quarter to two in the afternoon. But there aren’t any other people around…

When Facial Hair Goes Bad

August 24, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Okay, I will admit that I am not a big fan of facial hair. Sometimes, however, it can work. Most of the time NO. Buy a razor. If I am forced into a female stereotype that says it is gross if a woman doesn’t shave her legs, then men…the same goes for you. I have two recent examples of unfortunate beards.

Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers perennial back-up QB (Because Favre will never retire.)

If you look closely, you can see a beard that fits in quite well with the Green Bay area (trust me, I was born there), but honey…you are too pretty for that. Stop it. Please.

Matt Guerrier, Minnesota Twins relief pitcher.
Okay, I do not have a photo from last night, but it was terrible. If you’re going to have facial hair, the least you can do is keep it in line! Yikes, man. I swear, I thought for a second they were showing highlights from 20 years ago. It’s 2007, Matt. The caveman look is not in. You’re so much better looking with just a slight amount of stubble.
